Exporting live animals —thoroughbred horses in particular— is one of our most delicate operations. We coordinate every stage together with veterinarians and control authorities, complying with health and quarantine protocols under current regulations. Transport takes place in stainless-steel air-cargo modules designed for animal welfare, with precision logistics from the stable of origin through to loading.
SENASA is Argentina's animal-health authority: Ley 27.233 (Art. 5) names it the enforcement authority, with jurisdiction to plan, execute, and control those actions —the 2015 law names the then Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca, now dissolved; SENASA currently reports to the Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca within the Ministerio de Economía. Export is authorized through TAD, and once the destination country's required health procedures are completed, SENASA issues the Certificado Veterinario Internacional (CVI), which reflects the specific requirements SENASA agrees on with each destination's Servicio Veterinario Oficial. For thoroughbred horses, the baseline document is the libreta sanitaria equina; the Stud Book Argentino's Equine Passport, when authorized with SENASA and linked to the establishment's RENSPA, replaces it as the health and registration document for the animal's movements —but it governs movements, not export: exporting also requires prior authorization through TAD, the corresponding quarantine, and whatever diagnostics and vaccinations the destination country requires.

Regulations and agencies involved
SENASA — animal-health authority (Ley 27.233, Art. 5)
Ley 27.233 (2015) declares animal health a matter of national interest and names the then "Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca" —dissolved by Decreto 8/2023— as the enforcement authority. Today that role is carried out by SENASA, a decentralized agency reporting to the Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca within the Ministerio de Economía.
Certificado Veterinario Internacional (CVI)
The request to authorize a live-animal export is filed through TAD; once the destination country's health requirements are met (quarantine, diagnostics, and vaccination as applicable), SENASA issues the CVI, which reflects the specific requirements it agrees on with that country's Servicio Veterinario Oficial. It's completed with the Documento de Tránsito Electrónico (DT-e) and a check at the exit point.
Stud Book Argentino Equine Passport (Res. SENASA 120/2015)
SENASA recognizes it as the health and registration document for a horse's movements, as long as it's authorized with SENASA and linked to the establishment's RENSPA; in that role, it replaces the libreta sanitaria equina, which is the mandatory baseline document. Without authorization, the passport only counts as an identity document, not a health one. The resolution governs the animal's movements, not export —for that, the full authorization, quarantine, and CVI circuit is also required.
